EWB-USA’s Fundraising and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Katie Harlin, loves traveling to new destinations and exploring Denver’s brewery scene. In the office, she focuses her energy on providing our members with the resources they need to build a better world!
How did you first learn about and get involved with EWB-USA?
I interned with Engineers Without Borders USA in 2016 as the Communications Intern. It was there that I learned about the organization and its mission and knew I wanted to return full-time if the opportunity presented itself.
Tell us about your new role here! Who will you interact with and impact the most?
My role is unique in that I get to work with both the fundraising and volunteer engagement teams. With this role, I’m lucky enough to work with our members, both student and professional. I’m excited to provide them with the resources they need to build a better world!
What part of your job are you most excited about and why?
I’m most excited about the innovation that we’re seeing at EWB-USA. I look forward to implementing change on an organizational level so that our engineers can succeed in improving communities around the world.
What does “engineering change” mean to you?
Engineering change to me means having a passion to solve the world’s most pressing challenges. It means identifying the communities where these problems live and putting in the time and effort to develop solutions and bring those solutions to light. It often means stepping out of your comfort zone in order to make the world a better place.
How do you spend your free time?
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. In the winter I’m skiing and in the summer I’m hiking. I love traveling to new places and you can often find me trying a new brewery around Denver.
