ProjectMiramar Clean Water Supply
Description
The goal of this project is to provide the 160 people of Miramar with access to a clean, dependable water source year round. The village of Miramar is located on a hill 500 vertical feet above La Ceiba. The people of Miramar rely on hand-dug shallow wells for water. These wells are also open sources, easily contaminated, with no purification or filtration. Additionally, the wells in Miramar go dry in the dry season and the citizens are forced to make the strenuous trip down to La Ceiba and back for their water. The people of Miramar need an economically sustainable and environmentally equitable source of clean water year-round. An assessment trip to La Ceiba and Miramar in May, 2007 was led by Rowan University and included one student from Drexel University. During the trip, the assessment team also visited Miramar to collect assessment data. The team identified many concerns about their water supply and has led to this application for a separate EWB project for supplying clean water to Miramar, El Salvador.
