Each year, EWB-USA recognizes individual members who go above and beyond to serve their chapters and their partner communities. Read about the 2015 winners of the EWB-USA Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leader and the EWB-USA Founders Award below.
EWB-USA Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leadership
Daniel Saulnier; EWB-USA Northeastern University Chapter
The Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award for Outstanding Leadership recognizes faculty advisors who provide outstanding leadership and mentorship to their student chapter. It is named for the late Peter J. Bosscher, who was an EWB-USA faculty advisor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was actively involved with the national organization.
We are excited to announce that Daniel Saulnier is the recipient of this year’s Peter J. Bosscher Faculty Advisor Award.
Dan challenges the EWB-USA Northeastern University Chapter to think beyond their classroom education and to imagine how their skills translate to building a better life for their community partners in Honduras. Dan provides technical advisement as the team designs solutions for their project and challenges the students to set achievable and sustainable goals.
But his help doesn’t end once the plan is set. Dan leads the travel teams in-country to witness these goals coming to fruition. Once the team returns from the field, Dan equips the students to share their stories of change at the university, regional and national level.
EWB-USA Student Founders Award
Patrick Mette
The EWB-USA Founders Award recognizes individual EWB-USA members who exhibit outstanding leadership in their regions, chapters and/or project teams by fostering responsible leadership with other members, chapters and partnering communities and helping partner communities meet their basic human needs.
This year’s Student Founders Award goes to Patrick Mette. In his seventh year of volunteering with EWB-USA, Patrick continues to raise the bar for the collaboration possible among chapters. Patrick has provided invaluable mentorship and facilitated important trainings for the Mountain Region, where he previously served as president.
His extensive involvement has also been mission-critical for the EWB-USA University of Arizona Student Chapter’s Bolivia project, where he has served as project manager and in-country contact. Patrick is also vital in bringing together partners within borders, and has contributed important work to the Bolivian nonprofit Engineers in Action.
EWB-USA Professional Founders Award
Tim Ager; EWB-USA Greater Austin Chapter
This year’s recipient of the 2015 EWB-USA Professional Founders Award is Tim Ager.
Tim Ager is a model leader in the EWB-USA community. In his role as a professional mentor and EWB-USA Greater Austin Chapter president, he has built up the organization by encouraging and developing the next generation of leaders. This includes addressing the turnover within chapters through robust succession plans.
Tim has been hands-on in the completion of multiple EWB-USA projects, traveling eight times to work on three different programs. He has also fostered philanthropy at home, creating a group within the chapter that focuses on local projects, which provides an opportunity to give back to the local community and engage members who do not get to travel on international project trips.
