How to start a student chapter!

Hello students and thank you for you interest in becoming an EWB-USA student chapter. The process is fairly simple. Be sure to check our chapter directory first to see if a chapter is already established at your school. If not, you need to download the documents shown below and our sourcebook. Please look them over carefully as they will probably already answer some of the questions you have. If you have problems downloading any of the documents you can contact the Chapters Coordinator.

D
own to the basics:
1) The most important document is the Chapter Agreement. It is an agreement between EWB-USA and the University that must be signed before you can get started. Amendments can be made to the agreement but will have to be accepted by EWB-USA before we can proceed. There is a release form at the end of this document that won't come into play until your chapter is ready to take on a project or travel. Once the agreement has been signed by both parties we move to step two.
2) All Chapters have a $400 chapter fee. This fee is designed to help cover administrative costs which allow the staff to better serve you. It also allows your chapter two faculty advisors and unlimited student members. Once we have received your signed agreement an invoice for the chapter fee will be generated. Payment will then lead you to step three.
3) All chapters are required to provide a complete membership list of all interested in joining the chapter. This list is designed to help us keep track of who our members are as well as provide them with the most current information and the full access of our website. This brings us to step four.
4) Once you have satisfied all requirements listed above you may consider yourself an official student chapter of EWB-USA. YEAH! Unfortunately due to our non-profit status there are no funds to throw a parade in your honor. However you will receive a welcome packet containing a chapter certificate, bracelets, EWB-USA pins, and (thanks to your membership lists) a membership card for each member. Last but certainly not least is step five.
5) You did it! You are official. In your downloads, you will find a chapter constitution/by laws. It is a template for you to use when drafting your chapter bylaws. When you have done so be sure to forward a copy to the Chapters Coordinator.
