SUBMITTING A NEW PROJECT TO EWB-USA

All new project applications to EWB-USA should be based on needs identified by the community requesting assistance. EWB-USA chapters, NGO's, and community based organizations are invited to submit a 501 - Project Application to start a new project with EWB-USA.  New open project applications must include the contact information of a community based organization (such as a womens group, farmers cooperative, local water committee, indigenous group etc.) which is willing to collaborate with an EWB-USA chapter for five years.

Important Notice: In an attempt to meet the needs of all the communities that have already applied for assistance with EWB-USA, we will be suspending open project applications from Africa on April 1st, 2009.  We hope to re-open applications later in the year once we have matched existing open projects with qualified chapters.

Application Process:

All new projects for EWB-USA chapters must be approved by EWB-USA prior to the start of the project.

1) Download and fill out the 501 - Project Application and send it to projects@ewb-usa.org (an example project application is also available on the projects download page).  The deadline to submit the 501-Project Application is the last day of the month.  (Note: You do not need to become a member of EWB-USA to submit an application).

2) The application is reviewed by the Application Review Committee (ARC) who will either approve, decline or ask for more information on the project.  The review proces takes 6 to 8 weeks. (Note: The 501-Project Application needs to be approved before submittal of the 507-Project Design Compendium).

3) If a project application is approved, there are two possibilities depending on whether a chapter is already associated with a project:

A) If the project has a chapter associated with it, then that chapter and the submitter will be informed of the application's approval, and the chapter can start to work on the engineering and fundraising for the project.

B) If it is an open project (does not have a chapter associated with it) then the project will be posted on the EWB-USA website for adoption by an EWB-USA Chapter.  Although we do our best to match open projects with qualified chapters, we can not guarantee that an approved project will be adopted.  Providing assistance for the implimentation costs of the project will greatly enhance the chances that a project gets adopted. If an open project is not adopted after one year we will remove it from the website and invite the submitter to send in a revised application.  (Note: the submitter's contact information will not be posted on the website, and this will remain confidential until a chapter adopts the project)

If the project is adopted by an EWB-USA chapter, the NGO/community and chapter will be notified immediately.  The two sides will then begin working directly with each other to develop the project, arrange travel to the community, procure funding, and all the other details of necessary for a successful project.

4) If you have any questions about our project process as it relates to your project, you may also contact the Project Manager.
